1. After Alexander took over Persia, Darius was thrown out of his throne. On pg. 7 it said that Darius was still a threat and that "Darius fled, keeping a few steps ahead of the Greeks. " Then he died. Does anyone know what happened to him between the time that he went to the Bactrian King and his death. Also, after Alexander took over his throne where exactly did he go and did he still have followers?
2. On pg. 9 it states, "At one of these, Alexander was wounded by an arrow that pierced his lung. For three weeks he was near death, but he eventually recovered." Alexander recovered from this, but how? What kind of medical care did they have with them? Also, Alexander died of a fever. Was this normal and did a lot of people die of this? What did they or could they have done about it?

1. On the last page it claims that Chiefs say that their horses are decendants of Bucephalus, Alexander's horse. After doing some research, Bucephalus was estimated to be born at approximately 355 BCE and died at 326 BCE. Alexander the Great was born at 356 BCE and died at 323 BCE. Then I did some additional research about a horse's life span. Most horses live around 20-30 years, but their ability to work clearly dwindles within the last 5-10 years of its life. With the intensity that Alexander the Great fought at, how was his horse able to maintain such a heavy workload? Wouldn't most opponents try to take down Bucephalus, since Alexander rode him into battle almost every time?
2. On Page 9 it says that Alexander engaged in one of his notorious drinking bouts. How often did he drink excessively, and wouldn't it affect him during battle?

On page 7 it talks about ATG ruling the biggest empire that the Western World had seen. Was this the biggest throughout the whole world?

On page 9 it discusses the return to Persia. How long did they stay in Persia before once again setting out to go to war?

1. Since the time period that Alexander fought was so long, how long did alexander think his empire would last? After all, his empire was huge and could become unstable.
2. On page 10, it mentions that the Greek culture was "inherited, preserved and perpetuated." If this is true, why did ATG decide to get a Persian wife and not follow tradition?

1. On Page 7, Alexander laid siege to Susa. Although it says that Alexander had some of the great siege weapons, was the idea of a siege popularized at that time period, or did Alexander popularize that idea?
2. It says that Alexander died of a fever? How many of his soldiers also died of non-war related issues such as a disease? Were there ever any diseases popular in that time that affected some of his troops?

1. When ATG was after Darius, Darius fled his home and went into hiding. Was Darius killed by the Bactrian King he asked for help from? If so, was that because that king didn't want to get on the wrong side of ATG for helping his enemey?
2. When Alexander was king of Persia, it said his soldiers were loyal but his officers weren't as much. Was his father's favorite general, Parmenio, still loyal to ATG?

1. It was said on Page 8 that there were "numerous rebellions" among Alexander's troops. How did he deal with rebellion? Was it successful?
2. Can Alexander the Great be considered a dictator, as he allowed religious freedom and even established democracies in some of his conquered lands?
3. Did ATG engage in polygamy like his father Phillip? What was his relationship with his wife/wives?

1. On pg. 7 it talks about how Alexander enlarged his army whenever he took over a nation/city. Did he recuit by force or did people volunteer?
2. On pg. 8 it talks about how Alexander conquered up to the Indus River. Earlier in class we talked about the Ancient Indus River Valley Civilization and Mohenjo-Daro. Did Alexander the Great find anything, or was everything already underwater?

Throughout the reading it is mentioned how Alexander spreads Greek culture. What was his idea of Greek culture? Since he was taught by Aristotle was philosophy more accepted?

Did Alexander's message ever change from the original message he spread? With additions of places like Persia and Egypt did he change his message? Did he have different messages for different places?

Did ATG burn Pharsi city of Susa to avenge Darius for running away twice?

Did the changes in the way ATG dressed affect the loyalty towards him?

The reading keeps mentioning how alexander dress, did this affect his rule or it is important in another way. When he was in egypt, people were asking him if he thought him self a god. Did he thing that way and so he dressed like it?

on page 8 it says that once ATG had become the Persian king, greece had become part of the kingdom instead of just the special allies they had been. What does that mean?

1 On page 7, it says that Alexander entered the Persian Empire. Why does Babylon welcome him as a liberator but Susa resisted and fell to a seige?

2 On page 9, it says that the Greeks built ships to go back home and then only half of them go by boat. Why didn't they all go on ships instead of having half of them walk? Also, how would each side support the other?

1. On Page 8, it says "Alexander forced Porus into an alliance, a policy he had followed elsewhere." Where else did he form alliances in this way, and how did these alliances affect the situation after ATG's death?
2. All of the tales mentioned on Page 10 seem to be, at least partially, propaganda. We know that ATG used propaganda to great advantage, but was this new to the time period or had other rulers already used it?

1. Where were some of the rebellions that were mentioned in the reading? Also, how did Alexander handle them?
2. How did Porus' army use its war elephants against the Greeks (besides scaring them). Were the elephants ridden, used to carry supplies?

I found on several sites that ATG was extremely loyal to his friends so this loyalty probably went both ways. So, even when he changed the way he dressed, his closest friends would stay loyal.

4.On page 7 Alexander’s army found Darius dead by the roadside? My question was that how was he killed and it appeared that Darius was alone, running from Alexander, so how did he escape the Greek Army for so long by himself?

5.Throughout the pages Alexander begins to adopt different customs (Egypt, Persian, etc). What are the reasons for this change and did he begin to get too power hungry?
