The Pope

The Pope is visiting the US this week. What do you know about the Pope and what would you like to learn about him? (not just this Pope -- but the office over time)

Your post should contain 3-4 sentences of thought-provoking prose.

I know that the Pope is spiritual leader of the Roman Catholic Church in Europe. Also, he can appoint bishops and helps with disputes between bishops. I would like to learn when the tradition of taking a previous Pope's name started and what some of the Pope's other titles and duties are. I also think it would be interesting to learn about the origin of Popes: why there was a Pope and how the first Pope was decided.

I know that the Pope, as stated by Katelyn, is the leader of the Catholic Church. I know very little about the current pope except that his name begins with Benedict and that he was forced to be a Nazi soldier during World War II (he is German if I am not mistaken).

What would I want to learn about the Pope? I would like to know how far back the way in which the Pope is elected and further, when and how the current Pope was elected. Did his election differ from that of other Popes?

I don't really know much about the Pope. I know that the Pope is the head of the Christian church, but that's about it. I would like to know what the Pope does, when the act of appointing a Pope started, and why they change their names when they get appointed to being a Pope.

I really don't know anything about the pope, other than what is already posted. I'd like to know why he's visiting and what happens when he dies (is there an heir, or does it not work like that??).

I know that the Pope is named Benedict the XV and he is originally from Germany. The Pope is chosen by all the cardinals in the Vatican (Rome) when the preceding Pope dies. When you are Pope you serve for life. The Pope is the one responsible for governing all of the Roman Catholic Chruch. I'm not sure but I think that this Pope has worked towards making mroe peace with the other religions of the world.

I would like to know how Pope Benedict XV came to power (where he started and when), also why he is visiting the US.

I know the pope is the leader of the Catholic Church. He lives in the Vatican, inside of Italy. I also know that he is from Germany, and is fluent in many languages, French, English, Spanish, and German are ones that come to mind. Other than that I don't really know much about the pope. I would like to learn about how the pope's name is decided. I'm pretty sure that Benedict is not the pope's given name, so I am interested in how the name is decided.

I know that the Pope is the head of the Catholic Church and is located in the Vatican in Vatican City in Rome. The process for determining the next pope is long and gruesome and they serve until they die. Once a new pope is decided, smoke comes out of the location of decision from the chimney. I would like to learn about the position of the pope and more about his relations with other countries, but specifically the United States. Also, more about his personal life and what he had to do to become the pope.

like most people have said, the only thing I know about the pope, is that he is the spiritual leader of the catholic Church. I also know that the current pope is Benedict XVI.
I am very interested in learning how Popes are chosen and why they change their names.

I know that the Pope is a powerful leader of the Christian church, specifically the Roman Catholic denomination. Each Pope is given one of a series of names, which include John Paul, Benedict, Gregory and Pius followed by a Roman numeral denoting which Pope of that name he is. The current Pope is Benedict XV. When the position of Pope was founded, the Pope used to live in Rome, but he now resides in the Vatican City, one of the world's smallest countries. The Pope travels around Europe a lot but does not visit the US very often.

I would like to learn about the selection process when a Pope dies, and also if any Popes have ever been assassinated. I'd also like to know about the Pope's security--does he have a "Secret Service" of sorts?

I know that the Pope's name is Benedict XVI. He lives in the vaticans in Rome, Italy. He is the head of the Catholic Church which represent a major sect in Christianity. He promotes peace and tries to spread the message of peace and cooperation around the world.

I want to learn how the pope is selected and what his duties and responsibilities are.

I don't know very much about the pope, but i do know a few things. First of all, i know that the Pope is the head of the Roman Catholic Church (probably said 20 times already). Also, the pope was orinally a cardnial. How the pope is chosen, is that all of the cardinals get together and vote on a new pope. If they choose a pope, then they burn things so that black smoke rises, and if they sitll haven't decided, the burn things so that white smoke rises. The pope lives in the Vatican (sp?), a very small country in the middle of Italy.

I would like to learn who were our past popes, where they were from/their backgrounds. Also i would like to learn more about the Vatican, and why the pope lives there.

I know that the Pope has been a very revered position as the top spiritual leader in the Roman Catholic faith. They live in Rome, in the country of Vatican City. I know that Popes are generally quite calm and gentle, however, Pope Urban II called for the Crusades. The current Pope is Pope Benedict and he was formerly Joseph Razzanger, a cardinal.

I would like to learn more on how the Pope gets chosen, and who gets to decide this big decision. Also, when was the first Pope? Why did they decide to have a position like this?

I know that the Pope leads the Catholic Church. I think that he lives in Vatican city. I only know that the current Pope's name is Benedict, and he followed John Paul the second.

I would like to know how long the Pope has been and official job. Also , who decides who the pope is? How many pubic preachings does the pope do per year?

I know that the pope is the leader of the catholic church and they're in the Vatican. I know that the current pope is Pope Benedict. I want to know what the popemobile looks like, and whether the pope hat has a name.

i honestly don't know much about the pope, other than that he is an important spiritual figure in religion, and i know that a pope has only been to the US 3 times before (?). I would like to learn the role that the pope plays in his country, and what other countries he has visited. i would like to know what society would be like if there wasn't a pope, and the effect that would have on religion. i would also like to know how the pope has influenced the american society.

I don't know much about the current pope. I know he is Pope Benedict the XV. The Pope is the leader of the Catholic Church, and lives in the Vatican. I would like to learn more about past popes. I would also like to learn about the process of appointing a new pope.

What I know about the Pope is that he is the leader of the Roman Catholic Church as many others have stated. Also while I was watching the news it said that many Americans don't really have an opinion on the new Pope yet. I also know that the last Pope was very influential to many people and was assassinated when traveling in his car thing before or after he was going to something.

What i would like to mnow about the Pope:
1. I would like to know what the Popes job is and what are some of the normal day jobs he has to do?
2. I want to know how you just become a Pope? because i never really got how they are appointed.

I know that the pope is the head of the Catholic church and holds power of the rest of the people in the religion. I know that the current Pope is Benedict XVI. I also know that the need for a anulment/divorce in the marriage of king Henry the 8th and this created the Church of England, a seperate sect of the church. I think it would be interesting to figure out how you appoint a Pope and what jobs a Pope has.

I know that the pope is the head of the Catholic church. He is also the leader of the church. Benedict XVI is the current Pope. I know that he lives in the vatican. I would like to learn about how all of these positions came about. I mean, did someone just wake up one morning and decide that the leader would be called the Pope? Thats what I would like to figure out. Also who was the first pope?

I admittedly don't know much about the pope. What I do know is that the pope is the leader of the Catholic church. Historically, I think that the office has had a large amount of power over the various Catholic nations/kingdoms/empires.

What I would like to know is how the pope went from being a very very politically powerful person to where the pope is today. Or is he still extremely powerful?
